A contemporary interpretation of a historical park

The preliminary design proposes a comprehensive approach to the revalorisation and rearrangement of the Calvary area in Mali Lošinj and its surrounding environment, as well as the preservation of the natural, cultural, historical, and landscape values of this place. The planned amenities will emphasise the space’s role as an extremely valuable link between the city centre, educational institutions, and recreational-tourist areas while respecting its religious significance.

The reconstruction of historical roads and paths will allow the Way of the Cross area to retain its primary shape with the divided spaces integrated into the existing landscape. Amenities such as paths and areas for prayer and contemplation, a children's playground and labyrinth, resting areas with urban equipment, a central area in front of the church, and related infrastructure will be integrated into the existing layout of the Calvary area. The dynamic and diverse vegetation used in the project combines new and existing features within the entire Calvary area and takes inspiration from the plants and greenery associated with four different types of garden: the Gethsemane Garden, a medicinal plants garden, the Mediterranean cultural landscape, and the Garden of Eden.
